Debilitating headaches

The headache continues at a level that is not quite debilitating and yet I still don’t find myself able to function very well. The light sensitivity/photophobia seems to be quite extreme lately so it makes it hard to be up and about. And the overstimulation/phonophobia (often brought about by to much noise or movement aka Gideon jumping about). So in order to avoid the headache becoming debilitating I hunker down in the basement or I sleep. None of this is the description of someone with a manageable headache.

I will give the meds some more time but I have begun looking into the two in patient headache clinics and both are in network for my insurance. My next call will be to find out if they have availability of rooms and what it might entail. I just want to get back to my family and to my work. Shoot I would even love to be able to go to the store or out to eat but the thought is terrifying to me. So prayers for guidance on the next step that is right for me and my family.

Settled in at my Parents

All settled in at my mom and Bobs for the week. Headache is manageable most of the time and for that I am so very thankful. I am extremely fatigued so the combination of the headache that makes me want to rest and the utter fatigue walking from one room to another are going to prove a long road to recovery. It sounds like I should team up with Melinda Richmond to beat the fatigue, get enough rest and drink enough water so my blood pressure will stop plummeting. I continue to hover around 90/55 or so. Gotta keep drinking water, getting rest and somehow start to get some exercise (in time). But for now I continue to rest.

Emergency Room Visit #1

I waited until super late to finally to into the Emergency Room, but I finally made it.  Thank you to my dear friend Dawn Tomlin for picking me up and taking me. The doctor that saw me in the ER was awful…basically a bully.  The entire time he spoke with me he was talking down to me.  I was so embarrassed that I was in the ER for a headache by the time he was done asking questions.

Once he established that I had never had a headache/migraine before he finally ordered a CT and a lumbar puncture plus some drugs that are supposed to help (Toradol, Depacon: which made my crotch feel like it was full of pins and needles, so weird and Zofran).  That didn’t work so then he ordered Nubain (a narcotic I had never had before and I didn’t know he was even giving me a narcotic at the time).  All of the sudden I was flying pretty high and my nose was itching a ton.   It was at that point that he did the lumbar puncture.  He had me lean over a table and told me to hold still.  I kept itching my nose the entire time and didn’t really even know what was going on which I guess is good because Lumbar Punctures really are quite painful.

CT came back normal and the pressure of the spinal fluid is good and clear.  So the doctor asked if the Nubain worked, and said otherwise he would have to admit me and they would have to do an MRI…basically he bullied me out of getting further help in a state of mind that the narcotic put me in.  All of the sudden he was writing on the chart that Nubain resolved the problem.  I told the nurse that I still had the headache/migraine, but she didn’t do anything either.  The instruction was to follow up with my family doctor.

So I made a Doctor apt for Wednesday.

Snow Storm

New plan of attack; going to the ER as soon as roads are passable tomorrow. No relief from this headache accept the couple of hours of narcotic relief which happened to be accompanied by nausea and vomiting.  Thankfully I switched narcotics and the nausea is gone but the headache rages on. The biggest blessing is that I have been able to sleep, if only sleep would make it all go away.

Snow is piling up out there.

Gideon loved getting to play outside with dad, but man was it cold out there.  Good thing for snow suits.

Pre Superbowl Party

We have have plans to go and hang out with Norm and Deb and their grand kids for a Pre Superbowl Party tonight.  We never watch the Superbowl really, but we love to get together and the Superbowl was on a Sunday this year, so we just decided to get together on the day before and just play games and eat lots of food 🙂

But my headache continues, so I decided to take Vicodin because I know that it has always been good in the past and the Tylenol 3 wasn’t really working.  On the drive over to Norm and Deb’s I was so nauseous.  Apparently Vicodin was not a good choice.  So for the first hour of the party I didn’t fell very well.  Luckily I had Zofran for nausea in my purse.  My headache finally got a bit better, or I just stopped caring about it and we had a great time.
